If you are trying to increase traffic to your blog or trying to sell using Pinterest, but no matter what you do, you are not getting the results you want, it means that you might be making these Pinterest mistakes.
A while ago, Pinterest went through some changes to their algorithm, and this limited many people's reach and sales. With that, questions about this decline in pin impressions and blog traffic arose.
This issue also hurt my blog and I had to study Pinterest further to understand what was going on.
For a moment I asked myself if it was worth persisting on the platform, but over time I learned many things and currently Pinterest is the main responsible for bringing traffic to the blog and helps me sell a lot with affiliate marketing.
Pinterest: 9 mistakes you might be making on Pinterest
Pinterest is a platform that is always changing, so it is important to study it so that these changes do not harm your work in digital marketing or blogging.
1- You are not being consistent
A big mistake you could be making on Pinterest is not posting frequently. If you're not posting every day, you're not going to get the results you want. But you don't need to pin multiple images a day, you can pin 3 to 5 pins a day.
If you don't have time, you can use the platform's scheduling tool or Tailwind, which allows you to schedule posts for more days than Pinterest itself and is very easy to use. That way, you can automate your posts and keep getting traffic and sales.
2- You're repinning too much other people's content
This is currently one of the biggest mistakes a content creator or seller can make on Pinterest. You might be wondering why, but repinning a lot of content isn't ideal for business accounts, it's ideal for personal ones.
You value your own content, but that doesn't mean you can't repin someone else's pin every now and then. Pinterest itself claims that reach suffers because of this. When you start posting more of your content, you will definitely see good results in no time.
3- You are pinning old posts
A very common mistake on Pinterest is posting old pins too often. Pinterest doesn't want you to post old pins. They want you to create new images frequently. If you're not pinning consistently and you keep recycling your old pins, you're not going to get the outbound clicks you want.
It might seem like creating new pins every day is really boring, but the truth is that you don't have to create pins every day, just schedule it.
I try to create 3-10 pins a day and that's how I get a lot of outbound clicks and blog traffic.
I create all my pins using Canva pro and I also use photos in my pins. Canva lets you create designs for your social media quickly and conveniently. Using Canva Pro you have full access to exclusive images, fonts and photos.
Pinterest is a visual search engine , which means it's critical to pin reach. So using SEO strategies is essential. If you are posting your pins without keyword optimized descriptions , Pinterest will not know how to rank and categorize your pin.
Check in the image below
It's important to ensure that your board descriptions and titles are keyword-optimized. When you pin your pins, try not to mix up themes.
FOR EXAMPLE: Don't put a pin about dinner recipes in a folder about hair. It just doesn't make sense.
5- You are creating weak pins
Weak pins are not worthy of outbound clicks.
It's hard to accept, but not every pin is going to have outbound clicks. However, there are things you can do to make a pin go viral.
What makes a pin worthy of outbound clicks?
- Easy to read text
- Strong keywords in the title
- Images of at least 600x900
- Use the right colors
- Images are high quality and sharp
Canva has tons of Pinterest templates that you can customize very easily. You can use the free version and the pro version.
6- You do not track Analytics
Pinterest Analytics is a very important tool for the content creator as well as the seller. Through the tool you can access impressions, exit clicks and much more. Also, more importantly, what are the best times to post pins.
7- Do you use group folders
Folders in groups are not as effective as they used to be.
Pinterest now sees group boards as spam now because they aren't being used the way they originally were supposed to. Pinterest created this feature for people to collaborate and share ideas.
For example, you are planning an event. Then you can create an event planning folder and add your collaborators to the folder so you both can share ideas for the event.
After Pinterest realized that bloggers were using group boards to increase their reach, they cut the reach of group boards. Now they prioritize personal pins.
Many group folders are not related to niches with many contributors with random content in that same group. This also compromises Pinterest's SEO.
8- You are expecting quick results
Pinterest marketing takes time, just like any other platform. You need to give it time. Stay consistent with your pin creation strategies for at least 3 months.
9- You are focusing on monthly views
In some cases, however high the impressions are, they don't matter. An impression is not an outbound click. You can have millions of views on Pinterest, but if you don't strategize, those impressions will equal a few outbound clicks.
Outbound or link clicks matter more. The goal is to create pins that bring in those clicks and drive traffic to your blog.
When your pins take off and start generating outbound clicks, your monthly views on Pinterest usually increase.
If your Pinterest account has 100K monthly views, it is not a guarantee that your blog traffic or link clicks will exceed 10K monthly. So monthly views do not equal traffic. Focus on increasing your outbound clicks.
Is using Pinterest for traffic and sales still worth it?
As much as Pinterest is always going through changes, it is the best platform for it! You can still get good traffic if you consider the tips above. Through Pinterest it is possible to create a good audience for your work and a good number of buyers.
Conclusion
Do you make or have you made any of these mistakes? Pinterest is a visual platform that can totally change the course of your business, just like it made my blog take off big time.
Do not forget to mainly create quality images and use keywords. It is important to fill in each space when creating a pin and especially using hashtags to reach more people.
